In the DASA project by The Corts Foundation and the National Archives of Indonesia (ANRI, Jakarta) an important milestone has been reached and a new archival series has been published online. After the Daily Journals of Batavia also the Resolution books of the Castle of Batavia are available and accessible online now.
The Resolutions were created by the General Secretary of the Governnor-General the Council of Dutch Asia (the Supreme Government in the VOC’s headquarters in Asia: Batavia Castle) and chronologically recorded and stored.
All 330 volumes of 1613-1810 are digitalized in Jakarta by The Corts Foundation and ANRI the last year and currently available on the website of http://www.vocindonesie.nl via the overviewpage of this series. More than 232.000 scans have been added to the webste with the publication of this important series!
The Resolutions reflect the decisions taken by the High Government that gathered in a meeting almost daily to govern Batavia, control the regional trade and to sign treaties and agreements.
A part of the Resolutions are indexed through the so called Realia, that were published in three volumes in the 19th century and published digitally on the website in 2013. Please have a look at the introduction page of the Realia for a more detailed explanation. The Realia were already created back in the 17th and 18th century, because of the sheer number of decrees and the need to retrieve them based on subjects. Via the Realia also matching scans of the Resolutieboeken can be found digitally now.
Because the decisions were usually based upon one or more documents, it is interesting to also study these so called 'Appendices to the Resolution books'. This series is being digitalized at the moment and will be published online in parts in 2015-2016. This series is expected to be over 550.000 scans in 742 volumes and will be a major contribution to the Resolution books themselves.
